Joe Biden update: The VP meets on government transparency today. But that meeting is closed
http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/washington/2010/11/joe-biden-transparency.html
With President Obama out of the country tweaking things in Asia, carefully not bowing this time, and packing away some pista murg and balak papri chat, his trusty sidekick Joe Biden is left to find things to do back home.
There's a big Diwali party tonight at the White House. The vice president will be there.
But first, JB has a breakfast meeting with Sen. Chuck Hagel and then another one of those Middle Class Task Force events to try to find some of those thousands of missing green energy jobs that have been promised so often.
Joe's had some problems with promises recently. He assured everyone that last summer would be full of economic recovery. Which it wasn't. And Joe guaranteed that his Democratic Party would maintain majorities in both houses of Congress in last week's midterm election. Which it didn't. . . .

National Security Advisor General Jim Jones resigned last week and will be replaced by a top military and national security expert. NOT. Gen. Jones will be replaced by man who epitomizes the term "political hack. -- Democratic Party activist and Fannie Mae lobbyist Tom Donilon.
On Friday, a favored day to release news while Americans aren't paying attention, President Obama announced that his national security adviser Jones would step down in two weeks and will be replaced by his deputy, Tom Donilon. The president hailed Donilon as a brilliant, hard-working adviser who “has a wealth of experience” in the White House and global security issues and is suited to run the NSC during a challenging era, according to Politico.
Of course, as Politico further notes, many disagree with the president’s rosy assessment of Donilon’s preparedness starting with the nation’s Defense Secretary: . . .

A recent State Department appointee is wife to the founder of a radical organization whose leaders include a socialist party founder, communists and a leader of the 1960s anti-American Weather Underground terrorist organization.
Barbara Shailor, appointed by the State Department as special representative for international labor affairs in May, also carries her own ties to some of the same radicals.
Prior to her appointment, Shailor was director of the international department of the AFL-CIO, the country's largest union, and served as senior advisor to the union's President John Sweeney on foreign and international policy issues. Rahm Emanuel Likely to Leave White House This Week

Although no final decision has been made because of family considerations, ABC News has learned that White House officials are preparing for Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel to announce on Friday -- as Congress adjourns for recess -- that he is leaving his post to explore a run for mayor of Chicago.
White House officials expect that President Obama will also name an interim chief of staff, perhaps senior adviser Pete Rouse, at the announcement.
Sources close to Emanuel cautioned that he has yet to pull that last trigger on the decision. . . . . .

Obama Administration Is 'Anti-Business': Jack Welch
http://www.cnbc.com/id/39321858
High unemployment may last for a long time because of the sluggish economy, bad politics and advances in technology, Jack Welch, author of "Straight from the Gut," told CNBC Thursday.
President Barack Obama's administration has an "anti-business" bias which manifests itself through intimidation, trade, taxes and regulation, Welch also said.
"Our businesses across the board look like 1.5-2 percent gross domestic product (advance) businesses," he said.
"The facts are in most businesses there's 20 to 25 percent excess capacity that they can fill in without adding any new people," Welch added. . . . .

The Obama administration has shelved the planned prosecution of Abd al-Rahim al-Nashiri, the alleged coordinator of the Oct. 2000 suicide attack on the USS Cole in Yemen, according to a court filing.
The decision at least temporarily scuttles what was supposed to be the signature trial of a major al-Qaeda figure under a reformed system of military commissions. And it comes practically on the eve of the 10th anniversary of the attack, which killed 17 sailors and wounded dozens when a boat packed with explosives ripped a hole in the side of the warship in the port of Aden. . . .

High Commissioner for Human Rights detailing the progress and problems in dealing with human rights issues in this country.
